Treatment Philosophy

Darlene Meza (they/them) uses an integrative, trauma-informed approach in their work with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families. They draw from various modalities, including

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and somatic practices such as movement, mindfulness, yoga, and meditation. Darlene believes in the power of rewriting one’s story to foster authenticity and healing, and they tailor their approach to meet each client’s specific needs.

Darlene is exceptionally skilled at working with clients navigating trauma, identity exploration, anxiety, emotional regulation, relationship dynamics, and personal or spiritual growth. With an emphasis on creating safety, building trust, and empowering clients, they help individuals and

couples feel more confident and connected to their true selves. Darlene’s practice is sex-positive,

kink-affirming, and inclusive of all relationship structures, including polyamorous partnerships.

Education

M.A. in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in MFT/PCC, National University

B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Ethnic Studies, University of the Pacific

Professional Experience

Darlene completed their clinical practicum at the Gender Health Center, where they supported a diverse range of clients, including transgender individuals, queer teens, and polyamorous and kink-involved couples. Before becoming a therapist, Darlene worked in nonprofit direct service and as a teacher in a Title I school, providing valuable insights into community care and resilience.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Darlene is committed to providing culturally competent, accessible, and inclusive mental health care. They are passionate about serving LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, Native, and military-connected communities, bringing both lived experience and professional expertise to their work

 Personal Life

Outside of their therapeutic work, Darlene enjoys baking from scratch, practicing hot pilates and yoga, and hiking in nature, especially in jungle environments. They find peace in surfing,

meditation, and connecting with spiritual practices like crystals, singing bowls, and tarot cards. A fan of thought-provoking films, Darlene also enjoys thrifting, sewing, listening to vinyl records, and capturing moments with vintage cameras.
