Treatment Philosophy

My focus is on working with individuals, families, couples, and teens. With a foundation in Family Systems Theory, I view each person as part of a larger system where everyone influences each other, affecting both symptoms and goals. By employing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and taking a Client-Centered approach, I treat anxiety, depression, trauma (using EMDR), as well as addictions to alcohol, drugs, sex, and pornography (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist – Candidate).

As a foster and adoptive parent of two special-needs children for the past 10 years, I have extensive experience with special needs and the mental health issues of children with traumatic histories. My background as a C-level business professional also gives me insight into the unique challenges faced by clients in demanding fields and professions.

Education

M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy, Hope International University (2022)
M.B.A., Seattle University (1997)
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, California State University, Long Beach (1984)

Professional Experience

My clinical training began at Straight Talk Counseling in La Mirada, where I worked with diverse clients (individuals, couples, and families) dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. I later interned at Safe Harbor Treatment Center in Costa Mesa, a dual-diagnosis inpatient residential treatment facility. There, I helped clients aged 19 to 60+ from across the U.S. who struggled with alcohol and substance addiction, as well as issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and sex addiction. I am grateful for the opportunity to build trust with my clients and assist them on their journeys to recovery.

Personal Life

I enjoy spending time at the beach with family and friends. I’ve read extensively about U.S. history, with a particular focus on past Presidents. I am also passionate about sports, especially baseball. I’ve been married for 40 years and love traveling with my wife. Additionally, I coached basketball for four years, working with adolescents.
